What you’ll do:

Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable and secure applications using Ruby on Rails for the European Platform team. This team is core to our business and works on critical areas from payments to money and client asset reconciliations. You’ll lead the design of technical solutions that allow our business to operate and innovate. We are a cross-functional team with product owners and designers and we believe engineers should have a voice in our direction. We expect well tested code following secure coding standards to ensure high quality applications. We keep our codebase clean and efficient by paying down tech debt when we can.

Our tech environment:

  • Backend: Ruby on Rails, some Python. Mostly API-based but some MVC and Lambdas too. MySQL, Postgres. Sidekiq.
  • Frontend: React, NextJS, TypeScript, Storybook.
  • Testing: Rspec, Cucumber, Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress.
  • Infrastructure: AWS.
  • CI/CD: Github Actions, Buildkite
  • In our day to day, we use a combination of Scrum and Kanban. We operate with a 'just enough' process mentality.

Musts for us to match:

  • Backend Expertise: Minimum 5 years of experience as a backend engineer, with a strong focus on Ruby on Rails, following best practices for fast and secure applications.
  • Technical Leadership: You’re trusted to lead complex and business-critical coding projects, including solution design and generating technical documentation. New architecture patterns proposals should be documented and presented across engineering teams. You’ll help lead the team regarding technical decisions, improving quality, promoting a security first mindset and you’ll have mentored senior engineers to help them develop these qualities.
  • Fintech Experience: Previous experience working in the fintech industry using payment providers and with an understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements. We don’t expect you to know our regulations but we do expect you to realise how important they are to our business.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders across various business units.
  • Proactive and self-driven mindset: Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and continuously seek opportunities to improve data infrastructure and processes. If you hit a roadblock, tell us about it.

Nice to Have:

  • Frontend Expertise: Proficiency in React, with experience building responsive and performant user interfaces by creating and using components from a shared Design Language System is a major plus.
  • Performance Optimisation: You’ll proactively identify bottlenecks and optimise application performance to ensure a great user experience for both customers and internal staff.
  • Web3 technologies: Familiarity with Web3 technologies and blockchain integration in fintech applications.
  • API standards: Familiarity with API standards and best practices for REST and GraphQL APIs.
  • Monitoring and Reporting tools: Experience with monitoring and reporting tools such as Datadog, Airbrake, New Relic.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, scale-up environment: Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to rapidly changing business needs.
  • Search engines, BI and Analytic tools: Experience with search engines like Elasticsearch or even better OpenSearch. Experience with tools such as Looker and Google Analytics.

Culture, Values and what you may love working with us:

  • Unlimited potential for growth and contributions as Republic constantly keeps growing;
  • Amazing professional environment with lots of opportunities
  • Speak-easy communication and ideas sharing environment
  • Place where your great ideas and contributions are valued and awarded (We have quarterly run Unicorn Award for the best contributors and mid/year and annual reviews)
