Senior Director of Software Engineering

The Senior Director of Software Engineering is a hands-on leader responsible for managing the development of a complex enterprise software platform in the regulated Life Sciences industry. The role involves overseeing a global team of 65+ engineers, including direct management of 3-4 Engineering Directors. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Product Development, this leader ensures a balance between rapid development and high-quality delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and delivery of software products and services.
• Oversee processes, technologies, and project prioritization to meet business goals.
• Collaborate with product, QA, and architecture teams to improve development speed and quality.
• Manage a globally distributed team, fostering a strong people management culture and enhancing retention.
• Ensure on-time delivery of software within Agile methodologies, optimizing or evolving processes as needed.
• Handle budgeting, risk mitigation, and compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory standards.
• Mentor and develop team members into technical leads and managers.
• Participate in client meetings and audits.

Skills and Qualifications:

• 8+ years in software development with expertise in modern architectures (microservices, cloud computing, transactional systems).
• Strong technical background in Java, Node.js, Angular, MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS.
• Managing distributed teams of 20+ engineers, with proven success in team development and retention.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with regulated industries, particularly Life Sciences or clinical trials (preferred).
• Certifications in management, project management, or software engineering are a plus.
