Lead Rust/C++ developer

Embucket is a company specializing in data infrastructure and database development. We're building cutting-edge solutions using technologies like Apache Datafusion and Apache Iceberg to tackle complex data challenges.

We're seeking an experienced Lead Rust Software Engineer with deep expertise in C/C++ or Rust (minimum 3-4 years), significant database development experience, and substantial software engineering experience (8+ years) to guide our development team. This is a remote, full-time position where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping our product architecture, mentoring team members, and driving technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of complex features in our Rust-based database systems
• Architect scalable, high-performance data processing and storage solutions
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers on the team
• Collaborate with product management to translate business requirements into technical specifications
• Establish coding standards, best practices, and development processes
• Make critical technical decisions regarding database architecture, query optimization, and data models
• Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure code quality
• Research and evaluate new database technologies that could enhance our product offerings

Requirements

• 3-4+ years of professional experience with C/C++ or Rust
• 8+ years of general software engineering experience
• Proven expertise in database development, particularly with column-oriented and analytical databases
• Experience designing and implementing data storage and retrieval systems
• Strong understanding of database performance optimization and query tuning
• Proven experience in a technical leadership role
• Excellent knowledge of distributed systems architecture
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Experience mentoring and developing other engineers

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of Apache Datafusion, Apache Iceberg, or similar data processing frameworks
• Background in data engineering at scale
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment technologies
• Open-source contributions to Rust projects or database tools
• Experience in performance optimization for data-intensive applications
