About the Role

As a Tech Lead DevOps Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in driving our company’s technological advancements. Our platform currently utilizes .NETC#, and traditional databases, but we’re excited to be prototyping with Amazon EMR and Databricks to address our growing data needs and boost scalability by an impressive 16 to 20 times! You’ll have the unique opportunity to work on both legacy systems and state-of-the-art cloud platforms, helping to shape the future of our supply chain solutions.

You’ll collaborate closely with a team of three DevOps engineers based in India. While the title "lead" suggests a position of authority, it primarily focuses on spearheading technical initiatives rather than having direct reports.

In this role, you’ll report to the Director of Engineering, who is based in the GMT+5:30 time zone.

Position Details:

  • Role:Tech Lead DevOps engineer
  • Location: Remote (We’re looking for candidates in Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, Georgia, or Serbia only)
  • Employment: Service Agreement (B2B contract; you’ll need a legal entity to sign)
  • Start Date: ASAP (October - November, 2024)
  • Salary: from $6,000 - $8,000 USD per month GROSS (fixed income, paid via SWIFT)
  • Working Hours: 11 AM to 7 PM local time
  • Time Overlaps: Expect meetings with teams in GMT-5 and GMT+5:30; occasionally you may chat with the CTO in GMT-8.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build cloud-native solutions to boost scalability using tools like Amazon EMRDatabricks, and other big data technologies.
  • Help move our legacy systems over to a modern tech stack, including .NETC#, and various databases.
  • Set up observability solutions in across the entire suite of technologies/infrastructure to proactively find and address issues, identify patterns in processing and proactively determine scalability solutions.
  • Work alongside our diverse teams to design, implement, and maintain robust data processing and integration systems that really work for us.
  • Upgrade our CI/CD processes with some innovative services that make things efficient, and achieve best of class DORA metrics
  • Take a close look at our current infrastructure to spot any opportunities for cost savings.
  • Streamline data access methods to create a secure and compliant self-service platform.
  • Support your teammates in finding cost-effective solutions that keep everything running efficiently.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, encouraging a collaborative atmosphere where everyone can grow and thrive.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience: You have 10+ years of experience in cloud architecture, with extensive expertise in AWS (this is a must!). Experience with GCP or Azure is a plus.
  • You know how to design and implement multi-region deploymentsfailover strategies, and disaster recoveryplans.
  • You’re well-versed in AWS architecture, services, networking, and security - think EMRIAMVPCEKSALB, and Lambda and so on.
  • You have advanced skills in TerraformDocker, and Kubernetes, whether you're working with managed services or setting up self-managed clusters.
  • You have a solid understanding of distributed data processing frameworks like Apache Spark and Airflow, along with a good grasp of relational database management systems and distributed data systems.
  • You bring strong hands-on experience with Databricks.
  • You have practical knowledge of Python.
  • You excel in engineering craftsmanship, focusing on software development processes that emphasize testing, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), monitoring, and documentation.
  • You have advanced English skills.

Highly Desired Skills:

Cloud Certifications: AWS, GCP, or Azure certifications (like AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, GCP Professional Cloud Architect) are a big plus. Specifically, AWS certifications that could help you succeed in this position include:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
  • AWS Certified Big Data - Specialty

Other Requirements:

  • Remote Work: You can work remotely and maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Time Zone Overlaps: You’re comfortable meeting during time zone overlaps with teams in GMT-5 and GMT+5:30, plus occasional meetings with the CEO in GMT-8.
  • Legal Entity: You need a legal entity to sign the B2B contract.

Recruitment Process

  1. Initial Interview: up to 60 minutes with HR, including a self-assessment form.
  2. CTO Interview: up to 60 minutes (Focus on your technical experience, accomplishments, and career goals)
  3. Test Assignment: 60-90 minutes on the iMocha platform (covering knowledge/skillset that a Cloud Engineer would use day-to-day, like Terraform, CI/CD Principles, Capacity/Performance Management principles). Note: If you hold a valid AWS Associate, Professional, or Specialty certification, this test assignment can be skipped.
  4. Technical Interviews: Senior Director of Engineering: up to 60 minutes  (focus on hard skills)
  5. Managerial Interview: VP of Engineering: 45-60 minutes (Discuss work schedules, platform functionality, company goals, and vision).
  6. Optional final sync with CTO (pre-offer discussion).
